Commemorative coins 9th SEA Games issued by Bank Negara Malaysia in conjunction with the Southeast Asian Games held in Kuala Lumpur from December 19 until January 1977. The sport is accompanied by 3 new countries; Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines that have just joined the SEA games Federation. This makes the entire 7 country participating in sporting events including Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia have joined in the previous edition of the Sea games.

Commemorative coins was released on 15 July 1977 with 3 denominations; $ 200 gold coins, $ 25 silver coins and $ 1 cupro-nickel. These commemorative coins are minted at the Franklin Mint, United States of America.
